Just a quick check-in for a blog weigh in. As of this morning, I weighed 257.6, down by about 5 lbs in the last 4 weeks since we’ve been going to the YMCA.

We’ve been going to the YMCA for 2 weeks now, and I’ve done the full week’s worth of the Podrunner Intervals trying to work up to running a full 5K. Over the last 2 runs on the treadmill, I’ve done 1.8 miles each time, and also found that my wireless HRM that I got from woot.com works with the equipment there. It makes it much easier to have the machine automatically read my heart rate than grabbing those akwardly placed sensors. Entering my age & weight on the machines is also a nice feature, since I think it adjusts the # calories burned for those factors.
Here’s a graph from fitday.com of my weight between 11/24 and today. I didn’t enter all the data points, just some along the way. I’m going to try to remember to update that site often, as this is a good tool. I’ve decided that I’d like to try to set a goal for my 33rd birthday in August. I’m shooting to be down to 225 by then. That may be really pushing it, but I think I can get close with better eating and continuing the workouts.

Big props to NCN and his nocaloriesneeded.com blog for the link to fitday.com.
The wife & I jumped into the workout pool deep end this week, joining the YMCA on Monday. So far, it’s been good, got to do a little on the treadmill Monday night, and did about 35 minutes on elliptical machine on Wednesday. I’m still a little sore from that, but I’m looking forward to going back tonight after work.
Having onsite child watch is a great thing, and that’s what really allows us to do this. The site isn’t too convenient, but it’s not bad either. It’s about 20 minutes from the house, but as long as I leave work at 5, we can get there before 7. Since the child watch ends early on Fridays (tonight), Becky’s going straight there from work, and I’ll be meeting her there.
I haven’t seen a big weight loss yet, but again, we’re just in the first week. I did find an interesting music mix/interval trainer that I’m going to try out. It’s called Podrunner:Intervals, and I’m trying the “First Day to 5K” mixes. You can find them at http://www.djsteveboy.com/intervals.html.
I wrote some goals back on 1/4, and now that we’re 4 months in, I wanted to see how I’m doing.
Health – not too great, but not bad. Haven’t gone down the scale, only up 5lb, but need to work more at this. I need to get more exercise, and there’s really no excuse.
Career – good things here. I had my annual review in Feb and got a decent raise. Aside from the school and other things, this one’s done! Plus, I’ve been working on automating some processes at work that not only help me there, but has taught me more about MS Access. That’s definately a marketable skill now.
Financially – this has been difficult. The raise has definately helped, and I’ve contributed some to an emergency savings fund at an online bank with a decent APR. Downside is that I’ve had to use part of that for unexpected healthcare costs. Becky had her gallbladder removed in February, and then had some additional surgery on an abcess last month. She’ll have to do it again in another 3 months. I’m glad that we allowed for additional spending on her FSA, but that’s already been wiped out. Thankfully, her insurance has a max out of pocket at $1k, and we’ve already met that.
Other – well with all the other crap going on, I haven’t cleaned anything. :Þ
Goals:
Yeah, I’ve done some resolution stuff, but haven’t laid out goals for 08. A post over at another blog has reminded me of that. So, I’m going to set forth some goals for the year, and try to review those as the year progresses.
Health – for 2008, I want to continue to lose weight, and considering that I did decently on this in 07, I want to set a goal of 200 lbs for 2008. This would actually put me at a lower weight than when I graduated high school (I was around 225 then).
Career – I know this is a touchy one, since I really like where I work, but I want to expand my horizons and be able to make more money. So, rather than complete the MS cert I started in 07, or the Cisco ones that they’re offering via work, I will set my goal to take at least 2 courses at our local college. We have a branch near the office that’s part of the same district that’s near our home. I can take a lunchtime class or a night class and whether it’s for credit or other learning, I’m going to get back in the saddle. As part of that, I think I can increase my income by at least $5000/yr, and that would be an excellent move.
Financially – My net worth is lacking due to credit issues and other outstanding debt. So, my goal is to pay off and close at least 1 credit card and to open an IRA account and automatically contribute at least 5% to it. I also need to start saving away for our vacation that we’ll take once we’ve hit our weight loss goals. This Germany trip will be fairly expensive, so if I can start saving for it now, we should be able to have a great time without using credit cards by the time we want to go.
Other – I’m going to set a goal to clean my computer room by Feb 28, and our garage by the end of May. These 2 parts of our house have gone too long looking like crap, and those are my main responsibility. We had grandiose plans last year to rework the garage into a lounge and haven’t done a damn thing for that. If we can clean it up, that can become more usable space so easily.
Goals:
I put up some of my resolutions/goals for the new year on the Money Blog and the Weight blog. But there’s stuff I want to try to do other than just that.
Also, from the sounds of things today, it looks like we’ll be daycare shopping soon. After Audrey’s bout with the nasty poo late last week, they’ve already sounded the warning bell this morning, never mind that she hasn’t had a bad diaper since midday Monday.
