I love my little car. It’s a first year 93 Impreza FWD (before all Subies were AWD). Get’s righteous MPG (33+ on average) with over 160,000 miles on the clock. But it broke on my last night. No fuel making it to the engine.
I replaced the pump last year, so I’m thinking it’s probably the relay. Made it through 15 long years before giving up the ghost. So, I go pull the part out of the car (stuck at a Kroger parking lot about 20min away) and hit the parts house circuit. AZ – Nope, Oreilly – Nope, NAPA – nada. So I call up the nearest dealer, and they don’t have them in stock, but for $120 plus tax and $25 for expedited shipping, I can get one in a couple days. I choke on the cost and timeframe and tell them I’ll call back if I need to order.
I retreat to the casa and start googling for the part number, which is obviously not a Subaru item. Down in the google searches, I find a page about Kawasaki bikes that references the ND (NipponDenso) p/n to a Toyota part. I call up the local Toyota (Gullo in Conroe) and they’ve got an updated p/n, and they have 1 in stock. Oh, and the price is only $17.90. The part is for some early 90s model Toyota, and they just happened to have one. Or at least they did have one since I nabbed it from them.
So, Subaru P/N 25230AA000 was superceded by 429557110, and is equivalent to Kawasaki P/N 056700-5260 which is equivalent to Toyota P/N 90987-02004. And it’s a lot cheaper at Toyota. So a big :p to Subaru this time. Thanks Google! We’ll know later if it worked. I hope it does, but if it doesn’t, I’ll at least have the car here to work on instead of in the Kroger parking lot in Porter.
